Handcrafted USS Alabama BB-60 model
Handcrafted USS Alabama BB-60 model. L: 42.5 W: 7 H: 15.75 Inches. Home to a crew of 2,500 courageous Americans, this 45,000-ton war machine’s WWII adventure culminated with BB-60 leading the American Fleet into Tokyo Bay on September 5, 1945. Nine Battle Stars for meritorious service were awarded the “Mighty A” during her brief three-year tenure as the “Heroine of the Pacific”. Master craftsmen handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch using historical photographs, drawings, and original plans. They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. The model contains stunning details which include the camouflage paint, cannons, jet fighters, crane, machine guns, lifeboats, anchors, radar tower, railings, riggings, and much more. The model rests on a solid wood base with a brass nameplate engraved “USS Alabama”. It’ll make a perfect gift for all the passionate history buffs or collector! From its humble beginnings on February 1, 1940, as the keel was laid at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia, Battleship USS ALABAMA (BB-60) has had a remarkable career. She began her World War II adventures in the North Atlantic in 1943, then later that year, went to the South Pacific seas. She ended up in Mobile, Alabama as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to millions. Alabama assisted in Operation Magic Carpet after the war, carrying some 700 men home from the former war zone. She was decommissioned in 1947 and assigned to the Pacific Reserve Fleet, where she remained until 1962 when she was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register. “Against All Odds” By Artist, Robert Taylor Limited to 700 prints Edition #: 89/700. Size: 32.5″ x 23.5″ (82.6 x 59.7 cm) COA Not Available Replacement certificates are available through the publisher. Signed by Kapitanleutnant Karl-August Landfermann, Oberbootsmannsmaat Rudolf Muhlbauer, Kapitanleutnant Heinrich Schroeteler, Korveitenkapitan Helmut Witte, Kapitanleutnant Gerhard Bielig, Kapitanleutnant Heinz Franke, Kapitanleutnant Siegfried Koitschka, and Artist Robert Taylor. Damaging a PBY Catalina’s tail, this German U-Boat hopes to make an escape beneath the depths of the ocean after being caught on the surface. Signed by Artist Robert Taylor and seven squadron members, this fine art print captures the determination of the German U-Boat crews, and makes a good addition to any WWII Collection. Never Framed & Stored Flat in Smoke-Free Environment. The name Robert Taylor has been synonymous with aviation art over a quarter of a century. His paintings of aircraft, more than those of any other artist, have helped popularize a genre which at the start of this remarkable artist’s career had little recognition in the world of fine art. When he burst upon the scene in the mid-1970s his vibrant, expansive approach to the subject was a revelation. His paintings immediately caught the imagination of enthusiasts and collectors alike. He became an instant success. Robert’s aviation paintings are instantly recognizable. He somehow manages to convey all the technical detail of aviation in a traditional and painterly style, reminiscent of the Old Masters. With uncanny ability, he is able to recreate scenes from the past with a carefully rehearsed realism that few other artists ever manage to achieve. This is partly due to his prodigious research but also his attention to detail: Not for him shiny new factory-fresh aircraft looking like museum specimens. His trade mark, flying machines that are battle-scarred, worse for wear, with dings down the fuselage, chips and dents along the leading edges of wings, oil stains trailing from engine cowlings, paintwork faded with dust and grime; his planes are real! I HAVE OTHER LOTS OF VINTAGE/ANTIQUE PHOTOS. THESE, AND THE OTHER LOTS LISTED, ALL CAME FROM AN ESTATE IN MISSOURI. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF PHOTOS. I’M PUTTING THEM IN LOTS OF SIMILAR AGE/TYPE. Thank you and enjoy browsing my store! Here is a RARE photograph! This is a photo of 6 crew members of the USS ESSEX. The photo is marked on the front: SAWYERS 159 N. 8th St Philadelphia, PA. According to the writing on the back, the man standing on the right is the “Humble Servant” owner. The others were his friends and crew mates. These early photos are tough to find and even harder to find with them identified!! There is some wear on the corners of the back board, but the photo is fine. THE FOLLOWING WAS COPIED/PASTED FROM THE INTERNET ABOUT THE USS ESSEX. The construction of the U. Essex was authorized by President Abraham Lincoln shortly before he was assassinated but it was delayed for several years. The decaying condition of the navy eventually resulted in a special Congressional act, approved February 10, 1873, authorizing the Secretary of the Navy to construct eight war vessels, the aggregate tonnage of the whole not to exceed eight thousand tons. Adams and Essex were awarded to him. Under the same form of dual superintendence, as in the case of the Adams, the wooden screw steamer Essex, possessing exactly the same dimensions and tonnage, was built by Donald McKay at the Kitter Navy Yard. The Essex’s keel was laid in 1874 and the contract for its machinery was secured by the Atlantic Works. The Detroit Free Press, Nov. 22, 1930, reported the Essex was commissioned in Boston on Oct. 3, 1876, and entrusted to the command of Winfield Scott Schley of Spanish War fame. It was assigned shortly afterward to the North Atlantic Station. It sailed on the Pacific Station from Nov. 1882 and thence on the Asiatic Station for two years during which it took on board Captain S. Morrison and crew members of the shipwrecked Ranier. It was placed out of commission at the New York Navy Yard, Jan. It visited Ponapai, East Carolina Group, in Oct. 1886, to investigate a reported massacre of Spaniards and afforded protection to American missionaries. The Essex left the Asiatic Station in Jan. 1889, returning to United States via the Suez Canal and on May 11th of the same year was placed out of commission at the New York Navy Yard. The Essex was recommissioned on April 22, 1890, and from June 30 to July 8, it took part in the Reunion Ceremonies of the Army of Potomac at Portland, Maine. Afterwards it served on the South Atlantic Station from Oct. It was stationed at Annapolis with cadets on board for instruction in April, 1893, and again went out of commission at Navy Yard, Norfolk, Virginia, June 13, 1893. The Essex was again recommissioned Jan. It was recommissioned Sep. 29th, 1898, and continued in training service until placed out of commission at Navy Yard, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Dec. Please see pics and message me with any questions. I CANNOT CHANGE IT OR REMOVE THE OPTION. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Transportation\Boats & Ships\Military\Photographs”.
